DMPP-4: Candidate sub-Neptune mass planets orbiting a naked-eye star

چکیده

Abstract We present radial velocity measurements of the very bright (V ∼ 5.7) nearby F star, DMPP-4 (HD 184960). The anomalously low Ca ii H&K emission suggests mass loss from planets orbiting a activity host star. Periodic variability with ∼10 m s−1 amplitude is found to persist over >4 year timescale. Although non-simultaneous photometric in four tess sectors supports view an inactive we identify periodic signals and also find spectroscopic evidence for stellar activity. used posterior sampling algorithm that includes number Keplerian signals, Np, as free parameter test compare (1) purely models (2) model linear correlation (3) Gaussian processes. Evolutionary Analysis of Gaseous Sub-neptune-mass Planets with Mesa

Sub-Neptune-sized exoplanets represent the most common types of planets in the Milky Way, yet many of their properties are unknown. Here, we present a prescription to adapt the capabilities of the stellar evolution toolkit Modules for Experiments in Stellar Astrophysics (MESA) to model sub-Neptune mass planets with H/He envelopes. With the addition of routines treating the planet core luminosit...

Probabilistic Mass–radius Relationship for Sub-neptune-sized Planets

The Kepler Mission has discovered thousands of planets with radii <4 Å R , paving the way for the first statistical studies of the dynamics, formation, and evolution of these sub-Neptunes and super-Earths. Planetary masses are an important physical property for these studies, and yet the vast majority of Kepler planet candidates do not have theirs measured. A key concern is therefore how to map...

A new Neptune - mass planet orbiting HD 219828 ⋆

Two years ago a new benchmark for the planetary survey was set with the discoveries of three extrasolar planets with masses below 20M⊕. In particular, the serendipitous discovery of the 14M⊕ planet around µ Ara found with HARPS with a semi-amplitude of only 4 m s −1 put in evidence the tremendous potential of HARPS for the search of this class of very low-mass planets. Aiming to discovering new...

A Super-earth Transiting a Naked-eye Star

We have detected transits of the innermost planet “e” orbiting 55 Cnc (V = 6.0), based on two weeks of nearly continuous photometric monitoring with the MOST space telescope. The transits occur with the period (0.74 d) and phase that had been predicted by Dawson & Fabrycky, and with the expected duration and depth for the crossing of a Sun-like star by a hot super-Earth. Assuming the star’s mas...

The Origin and Nature of Neptune-like Planets Orbiting Close to Solar Type Stars

The sample of known exoplanets is strongly biased to masses larger than the ones of the giant gaseous planets of the solar system. Recently, the discovery of two extrasolar planets of considerably lower masses around the nearby stars GJ 436 and ρ Cancri was reported. They are like our outermost icy giants, Uranus and Neptune, but in contrast, these new planets are orbiting at only some hundredt...
